Christian Counseling
What is Christian Counseling?
Counseling from a faith-based perspective may have different names. Some call it Biblical Counseling. Others call it Christian Counseling. Still others have referred to it as Spiritual Direction. All of these are different forms of Counseling from a Christian perspective. However, they are also different in their own ways. Here at Legacy Marriage Resources, we just refer to what we offer as Christian Counseling or Biblical Counseling.
Christian Counseling is therapy that uses the truths from the Bible combined with researched therapeutic methods. This combination helps individuals or couples manage their stress, heal their emotional wounds, and grow spiritually as they encounter their struggles. In each technique, we use the foundation of the Bible for direction when working toward the desired goal.
In Christian Counseling, we recognize the Bible as the ultimate truth. It is a reference for choosing which methods we use and what information will be helpful. In essence, It is the guide. As the Bible says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16). We have training in gently helping you see the problems in your life and resolving them with you.
Is Faith-Based Counseling for me?
Faith-based counseling is for anyone who wants to explore more deeply their Christian faith. Also, this type of counseling is for those who are having concerns with their understanding of Christianity. Couples or individuals that seek Christian counseling usually want their therapy to be informed by a Biblical worldview. They usually desire a counselor who believes the same thing they do, or who can at least guide them in the understanding of what the Bible says about their dilemma.
Faith-Based counselors are usually knowledgeable about the Bible and help a client to use the Bible to work through their concerns. If you are seeking therapy that uses the Bible as the basis of truth and uses Scripture to inform you of how to overcome your struggles, then Christian Counseling is for you.
