How Much Does Christian Counseling Cost?
How much is Christian Counseling?
One of the things that is on the minds of couples or individuals seeking counseling is their own finances or better stated, “Can I afford counseling?”. When a person seeks Christian Counseling, they wonder the same thing. It’s a very good question and one that we will try to help you with here.
The cost of seeing a therapist depends on several factors. The fees can range from a sliding scale fee of $20 to a professional fee of $250 or more. This seems outrageous, doesn’t it? Well, the truth is, there are many different types of counselors with various degrees of experience, training, and abilities. There are also several different types of businesses that provide counseling, for example, non-profits, for-profit, and insurance-based counseling businesses. For a Christian counselor, you will find the same diversity, depending on the area you live, the experience of the faith-based counselor, and their level of licensure, certification, and training.
What is the average cost of Christian Counseling?
The answer to this question is difficult. You can ask Google what the average cost of Christian Counseling is, but you may get a website that tries to just give you a number. I have done this. I have seen websites suggest that $100 is the average price of Christian Counseling. However, they don’t specify how they came upon this sum. If you are like me, it is frustrating when you can’t get a correct answer. So, I decided to do a little work to try to come up with a more legitimate answer.
I scoured the internet to look at a bunch of different Christian Counselors’ and Christian Counseling Organizations’ websites to see if I could find out how much they charge for a 45 to 50-minute counseling session. As I was doing this, I noticed some websites did not share how much they charge. I thought this was odd because I felt as Christians it would be important to be transparent about your fees. I understand some did this because they have a sliding fee scale and they aren’t able to calculate the cost without a person or family’s income data.
However, out of all the sites that I found that had their rates and fees posted, I was able to come up with 25 different Christian Counseling Agencies or Christian Counselors that posted their regular fee. I then put all of their fees into a spreadsheet and found the average. So, for your sake, if you really wanted to know, I found a pretty good estimate of what the average cost of Christian Counseling is in Georgia and throughout some of the United States. Drum roll, please… The average cost of Christian Counseling is approximately $120. Posted below is the actual data and results of averaging out the fees.

What is the cost of seeing a Christian Counselor in Augusta, GA?
This question again is difficult to answer, due to the variety of options. Some organizations and Christian counselors provide sliding scales, others provide insurance, and others have flat-fee rates. Even the options that have flat-fee rates vary depending on experience, licensure, certifications, and personal preference. However, I would assume based on the data above that the average cost is still about the same when you exclude sliding scales and just look at flat rates. At least 5 of the above rates are from Christian Counseling organizations in the Augusta area. Here at Legacy Marriage Resources, LLC we charge based on our therapist’s credentials.
Other organizations may be non-profits or insurance-based. Legacy Marriage Resources does not accept insurance at this time.
Does insurance cover Christian Counseling?
This again depends on the therapist you choose to see for Christian Counseling. Insurance companies only cover services performed by licensed counselors and therapists in the state they are licensed in. Those counselors must be paneled by the insurance company to provide “in-network” services. Counselors who are not paneled, but licensed, may be considered “out of network” clinicians. Thus they could provide services that are covered under your out-of-network benefits.
However, Christian Counselors who are not licensed cannot provide services covered by insurance panels. So, searching around to find a good fit for a counselor is very important. These Christian counselors will usually have a certification or degree that allows them to practice Christian Counseling or Biblical Counseling in your state.
In the state of Georgia, Christian Counseling and Biblical Counseling are allowed to be practiced by pastors or certified counselors without being licensed by the state of Georgia. These therapists usually work for a church but also may work for or own a private counseling business with which they share their credentials to provide such services. Here at Legacy Marriage Resources, we provide Christian counseling in Augusta, GA, or online as therapists who abide by the state laws of Georgia to provide Christian Counseling. However, we do not accept insurance but would be more than willing to provide you with what is called a Super Bill if your Christian Counselor is fully licensed. You can submit this document to your insurance company. There is no guarantee you will get reimbursed, but if you have out-of-network benefits, they may provide you compensation for the services we provide.
If you are seeking Christian Counseling in Augusta, GA, you will find different fee schedules depending on what company or counselors you contact. Do your due diligence. Ask questions about insurance and cost. However, we would encourage you not to just focus on cost, unless you truly are struggling financially. The cost of not going to counseling can be higher than the cost of attending just a few sessions. Your goal is to grow spiritually. That does not mean you will get exactly what you need, but if you need Faith-Based Counseling, don’t wait, at least call around and see what you can find out. Call us and we will answer any question you have. We want you to find peace and joy in your life.
